An Enneagram introduction

At first glance, the Enneagram might look like another “personality system” that describes a set of character traits. But it goes much deeper than that. It helps us see core fears, motivations and needs. It reveals each of our unique blind spots that may get in the way of happiness and relationships.

The Enneagram gives us phenomenal insight into the gifts of each personality type and how easy it is to "stray" from these. Not only do we become more aware of our own "lens on the world" but by understanding the "lens" of others and what motivates this, our ability for understanding, compassion and patience grows.

Personality really "gets going" in the teenage years: Shame, anger and fear can be overwhelming at this stage of life. Teens feel the complexity of this but often don't know how to manage the feelings, thoughts and actions that seemingly just "show up" or that they feel are not within their control. Bad choices can spring from self doubt, low self worth and the need to "fit in", or be liked when a solid "sense of self" is perhaps not yet formed.

The teenage enneagram is a fantastic tool for teens. The workshop helps teens to better understand themselves in an easy and fun way. It helps them to recognise their unique vulnerabilities and to notice the "red flags" or triggers that might otherwise easily bring them down. It helps them understand why others might treat them in strange and bewildering ways. It helps them value and nurture their unique gifts and find their place in the world.
